D/s Lifestyle vs. D/s play

Okay, I keep starting drafts for this post and then scrapping them, looking for the perfect post. I was warned that doing that ends up getting you nothing. So here goes *something* I hope.

I know there are people who live the D/s lifestyle 24/7. But is that how most people approach it? Personally, I see it as a menu item, but I couldn’t imagine living it full time. Do those who do live it full time look down on the part-timers as dilettantes? Should we, in turn, look at the full-timers as one-dimensional? Can you whip a slave one moment and then do the New York Times Crossword puzzle with them an hour later? I’d like to think so. Though it’d be hard to concentrate with the weeping  and gnashing of teeth going on so close to you. I guess that’s why they invented ear plugs and ball gags :)

full-time would be exhausting and take all the 'play' out of it at least from my perspective as D.

I could've sworn I commented the other day. My mind is going. Ah, well.

As an alternate lifestyle, it's much like mine: I have to have what turns me on to get off—plus, it's so completely part of who I am that I do live it 24/7.

24/7 here, and no I don't look down on the “part-timers”. Being submissive is who I am. For me, it's not play. But I certainly respect people who choose to see D/s as a play scenario. Now Top/bottom, that a play thing for me.

Bottom line (bad pun): To each his or her own. Whatever trips your trigger is cool.
