Just ask them if they’d like to be the next victim. That will make them worried enough to stop asking. :-) And if they ask what you mean, ask them if they want to find out.

It still surprises me how often ‘the number’ comes up in online conversations. I think there is a genuine element of titillation for many in either disclosing their number or hearing it from someone else.

To me, it’s just a data point like how many pairs of shoes do you have, or how many times have you bought a new copy of Dark Side of the Moon.
